6th Grade Tuesday Focus: Zap Passes & Study Skills

7th Grade Focus:

Powerschool Check: Go through your class and record any missing assignments on your ZAP Pass. Try to get these turned in before Thursday.
Today's focus: Now that you've had the opportunity to think about some of the class activities you enjoy, you can begin to more thoughtfully explore your future path.

1. Work in pairs. Ideally, work with someone who has the same general career interest - for example, if you're interested in engineering work with someone who is also interested in that subject.
2. Interview your partner with the following questions: (5-7 Minutes)
  • What did you dream of doing when you were in elementary school?
  • How did you decide on this career?
  • What is the best thing about your career and what would you change?
3. Using the information from your interview, make yourself a business profile and business card. Open the document below (5-10 Minutes)

  • For some of the questions on this document you might want to do a simple google search to find out where you can get some information on careers you're interested in.

*Teachers: encourage students to save the file somewhere on their Google Drive

7th/8th Genius Hour: Create an Action Plan

  1. Say to your students: β€œNow that we have shared what we learned ...what will we do? What we are going to do will depend on the class topic, but it NEEDS to be something that can reach a larger audience than just this class and SHOULD help make the world a better place.”
  2. Take time to brainstorm what the class (or groups will do) with the information they found. If time permits, lead students through the next set of directions below:
  3. Say to your students: β€œIn large companies, hundreds if not thousands of people can be working on the same project. At Qualcomm there are over 1000 people working on a design for a new phone. How can that many people work on the same thing?”
  4. Divide up the work! Divide up the work of your action plan into manageable chunks. Decide how you can chunk up what needs to get done and give smaller groups tasks to do.
